When should you brush your teeth?

Brushing your teeth at the right times throughout the day is crucial for maintaining good oral hygiene. Here are guidelines on when you should brush your teeth:

Twice a Day

  1. Morning:
      • When: Ideally, you should brush your teeth after breakfast.
      • Why: Brushing after breakfast removes food particles and bacteria that have accumulated overnight, as well as food debris from your meal.
  2. Night:
      • When: Brush your teeth before going to bed.
      • Why: Brushing before bed removes the day’s buildup of plaque, bacteria, and food particles. It also helps prevent the formation of cavities and gum disease, as saliva production decreases during sleep, making your mouth more susceptible to bacteria.

Guidelines for Effective Brushing

  1. Use Fluoride Toothpaste:
      • Why: Fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities.
  2. Brush for Two Minutes:
      • Why: Ensure you spend enough time to thoroughly clean all surfaces of your teeth.
  3. Use a Soft-Bristled Toothbrush:
      • Why: Soft bristles are gentle on your gums and enamel while effectively removing plaque and debris.
  4. Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly:
      • When: Replace your toothbrush every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
      • Why: Worn bristles are less effective at cleaning teeth.
  5. Don’t Forget Your Tongue:
      • Why: Brushing your tongue helps remove bacteria and freshens your breath.

By adhering to these guidelines and maintaining a regular brushing routine, you can keep your teeth and gums healthy and reduce the risk of dental problems. If you have any specific concerns or conditions, contact Sussex Emergency Dentist.

I have seen Dr Fahad Jamil twice now and he has been very gentle and reassuring. Both he and his assistant were very professional and talked me through what they were doing at all times. He also gave me very good aftercare advice. The clinic is very clean and modern and the staff on arrival are helpful and welcoming. Nobody enjoys going to the dentist but it was as good as it could be!

Dr Jamil extracted my son’s wisdom tooth yesterday. My son is deaf and struggles with communication, he was very impressed with Dr Jamil’s deaf awareness. So impressed that he checked whether I’d written this review today !! Thank you.

I was referred here yesterday to have a wisdom tooth extracted. The oral surgeon was Faizal Sameja. Lovely guy. I was scared and I was in pain with this tooth for several weeks beforehand. After the anaesthetic kicked in, the actual extraction took about 5 minutes, if that. He was so skilful and his assistant was also very reassuring. In fact it was so quick and I was so relieved I think I laughed! All the staff I met at this dental practice were calm, efficient and friendly. I was expecting to be in pain last night and today but I have only taken 2 paracetamol since.
